Is It Safe to Use VOUX™ Ampoules With LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy has moved from med spa treatment rooms into at-home devices, and it's now a normal part of a lot of skincare routines. If you already use LED and are wondering whether VOUX fits into that routine, here's the full explanation: what LED does, what you should avoid around a session, and why VOUX's formulas are built in a way that fits alongside it.

What LED light therapy actually does

LED (light-emitting diode) devices use specific wavelengths of visible light, most commonly red and near-infrared, sometimes blue, to deliver light energy to the skin. It's non-UV, which is why it's considered low-risk for most people. Red and near-infrared light are generally associated with supporting the skin's natural renewal processes and a more even-looking tone; blue light is more often used for clarifying, congested-feeling skin. It's available both as an in-office treatment and as at-home masks and panels.

What you generally want to avoid around a session

LED itself is considered gentle, but what's on your skin during a session matters. The ingredients most commonly flagged as photosensitizing, meaning they can make skin more reactive to light exposure, including LED wavelengths, are retinoids (retinol, tretinoin), exfoliating acids (AHAs/BHAs), and high-strength vitamin C. Estheticians and derms commonly recommend skipping those specific actives right before a session, and holding off on reintroducing them for roughly 24-48 hours afterward. If you're on a prescription photosensitizing medication (isotretinoin, certain antibiotics, or others your provider has flagged), check with your provider before starting LED treatments at all.

Why VOUX's formulas fit around that

None of the three Trilight Complex® ampoules are built around retinoids or exfoliating acids. Red is built on PDRN-family DNA-fragment technology, an 8-peptide complex, and adenosine. Purple is built on tranexamic acid and multi-molecular hyaluronic acid. Tranexamic acid is a brightening active, not an exfoliant, and isn't on the standard photosensitizing list. Blue is built on panthenol, niacinamide, and a calming botanical complex. Peptides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, panthenol, and centella asiatica are not ingredients associated with photosensitivity, which is a meaningful part of why these formulas are considered a comfortable fit before or after a light-based treatment, professional or at-home. All three are also fragrance-free, which matters for skin that's already had light energy applied to it.

Building LED into a VOUX routine

  • Before a session: Cleanse and go in with skin bare, or with a lightweight, non-active layer. Save your ampoule for after.
  • After a session: This is when VOUX ampoules are typically used, apply to clean skin post-treatment. Purple for hydration and glow, Blue if skin feels warm or reactive after treatment, Red for renewal-focused evening use.
  • If you also use a retinoid or acid separately: Keep those on their own nights, away from LED sessions, per the general 24-48 hour guidance above. See our guide on layering retinol or tretinoin with Korean ampoules for more on spacing actives out.

For estheticians and med spas

This is part of why VOUX was built the way it was: as a fragrance-free, barrier-conscious line meant to sit alongside professional treatment protocols, not compete with them. LED is one of the more common modalities layered into facials and post-procedure care, and a retail line that doesn't force a 48-hour blackout window around it is easier to actually recommend as take-home care.
